Other attractions include, Newmarket and Parnell, which offer upmarket shopping centres. Avondale, the Otara flea market and The Victoria Park Market are all interesting alternative shopping experiences. Auckland’s largest shopping malls are Sylvia Park, Botany Town Centre and Westfield Albany.
The Auckland Town Hall and The Aotea Centre hold conferences and cultural events. The Auckland Art Gallery displays many national treasures. Other artefacts are displayed at the National Maritime Museum, the Auckland War Memorial Museum and MOTAT (The Museum of Transport and Technology).
A wide array of creatures can be observed at the Auckland Zoo. Kelly Tarlton's Underwater World’s underwater passageways offer you the opportunity to observe a huge variety of sea life in massive tanks. Gigantic stingrays, sharks and many species of fish found in New Zealand waters, are above and beside you as the conveyer belt carries you along.
Auckland Domain is the largest park in the city, it is situated near downtown Auckland. Other parks include, Victoria Park, Albert Park, Myers Park and Western Springs, which borders on to the MOTAT museum and the Auckland Zoo. The Auckland Botanic Gardens are in Manurewa.
Ferries and water taxis depart from Princess Wharf regularly to parks and nature reserves at Devonport, Waiheke Island and Rangitoto Island.
The Waitakere Ranges Regional Park, west of Auckland offers many short walks and unspoiled sub-tropical rain forest. There is some very good hunting in the Hunua Ranges to the south-east of the city, mostly for the wild pigs, also known as “Capitan Cookers” as some of their ancestors arrived in 1770, with Capitan James Cook and his crew aboard the Endeavour.
Auckland has some superb sporting facilities, rugby parks, cricket grounds, venues for motor sports, tennis, badminton, swimming, soccer, rugby league, and almost every other sport you can imagine. The main stadium is Eden Park, the All Blacks rugby tests and the Black Caps cricket matches are mostly played there. Mt Smart Stadium is used mainly for rugby league and soccer matches, but is also a popular concert venue. Western Springs Stadium is a natural amphitheatre, used mainly for speedway and concerts. North Harbour Stadium is mostly used for rugby and soccer.
